February 13, 2012

Hi familia,

thanks for all of your emails and letters and whatnot! Thank you SO much for the packages...they were incredible. we plan on baking lots of cookies today to give to members, investigators, etc. It'll be really good.

soooo this week was a pretty good one. up's and down's, the usual. we're seeing some good things happening with our investigators this week.

so...we have CESAR, who's all set to get baptized this saturday. It's hilarious teaching a 9 year old. for instance, teaching him the law of chastity, when he tells us he has a "girlfriend", but all she does is gives him stickers to put on his nintendo DS. Or teaching him the word of wisdom, and him thinking that means he can never stay up late again. Or him asking us if he can ever watch a PG or PG13 movie again. it's pretty hilarious, and we don't know what we're doing. Oh...or, the greatest. maybe I mentioned this already. He didn't come to church last sunday, and wjhen we had a lesson with him, we found out it was because some of the kids in his class had been hitting him on the head. Like bopping their hands on his head, and he didn't like it. Hahaha...it's just so funny seeing the concerns that we're dealing with. But he's still on board to get baptized this saturday! also, what made it great is that on saturday, he was going to go to a primary activity. But his dad didn't sign the permission slip, so he couldn't go. So all the kids ended up coming to his house (they were delivering hearts and cupcakes) and they came and gave it to him! and that night he was showing us all the valentines, and he was like "I'm just one kid! i'm so popular!" It was so cute.

wso i already told you that we set a date with ramiro. We prayed really hard that he'd be able to come to church this sunday, but he didn't get off work. But he's doing a lot to be able to come this sunday, so we're excited. He is so awesome.

What else...mother, this will make you so happy. i don't think i've mentioned at all that I play the piano out here! wha?! especially in Liahona 1st, the only lady that knows teh piano in the ward broke her foot, so I am now the pianist of the ward. which can be stressful, when they didn't tell me about it and they just asked me to come up and play the piano in sacrament hahaha. That is the missionary experience, isn't it? So I think I'm now up to about 7 or 8 hymns that I can play...woohoo! I'm really glad that it gives me an opportunity to serve and to develop my "talents" hahaha. I knew it would make you and Mrs. scranton proud, mom.

What else...we also set a baptismal date with this girl, denise. she's 20 years old and super sweet, but has a rough life. She used to be addicted to crystal meth...rough, right? But she is so sweet, and we set a date for march 18th. she always tells us how she feels so much better after we come over, or after she reads teh book of mormon, anything like that.

Oh...familia lopez! so, we were stressing out about how to resolve everything. we called them to see if they were still down to have a lesson on friday night, and they didn't answer. It got to the time of our appointment, and we didn't know what to do, so we said a prayer. Both sister vause and i felt really strongly like we should just go and stop by, even if they weren't expecting us. so we go over there, and they open the door, and it's the mom's birthday! they invite us in to have cake with them, and we just visited with them and it was SO good, we were able to regain their trust, make it not awkward, all of that. what's more, that 2 former investigators were there! coincidence? i think not. it was so cool to see how the spirit told us exactly where we needed to go, and it was so perfect!

Ok, so, last night I had a cool experience, and I'll let you be the judge of whether or not you think it was a miracle. so, sister vause has been having a hard time, with the whole 'going home' thing and all. And i was having a hard time too, just stressing out and discouragement and stuff. so last night, i kind of broke down (i'm sorry you get to hear so much about the emotional rollercoaster of a mission, but i promise there's a point)...anyways, but then we had a lesson with Ramiro to go to. So we headed over there, and our 2 members were there waiting for us, Israel and pedro. we parked the car in front of theirs, and I just took a few minutes to make sure I was okay and stop crying and all that. And then we said a prayer, and we got out of the car. and we go over to talk to them, and they look at us super confused. and we were like 'heyyy" and then israel goes "Hermanas, no quiero asustarles, pero vimos tres." (for the gringos of the family, 'sisters, we don't want to scare you, but we saw three.") and we're like 'huh?" and he goes "when you pulled up, we saw a third person sitting in the car with you. we thought it was another member you had decided to bring. both pedro and i saw the silhouette sitting in the backseat in the middle of you two, and then when you got out of the car, only two of you came out.' and sister vause and I just look at eachother and we're like "huuuuhhh?" and we go into the lesson, and israel is still super confused and trying to figure it out. and then after the lesson, we made some joke about it, and he was just like "no, fue un angel, yo se." (no, it was an angel, i know.) so...there you have it family. who knows what to think about it, but it just makes me think of the scripture in D&C, that my angels will be round about to bear you up. i think it was elder holland that said that one of the biggest teaching points of the book of mormon is that it teaches us of the reality of angels.

So, that is my email for the week. I'm sorry I can't write more. Things are going good, they're challenging as usual, but rewarding as always. Pray for cesar and our investigators this week! i love you all, have a great valentines day! we're having a mission wide party tomorrow to celebrate, woohooooo. love you all! Love, Sister fors
