April 23, 2012

Hi Familia!

Pues, que tengo que decir. Well, first things first, I found out shortly after I emailed you last week that this transfer (which started last wednesday) we're FULL FIELD! Which means we're only going to be in the visitor's center 3 hours a week, which means WAY more time in the area! We were both hoping to be called full-field so badly, so I was SO excited! So excited. So, now, we have much more time in the area, and I love it. This might be the only transfer I'm full field, so I'm trying to savor it. It started out good, we were ready to go and to just work hard. I made it a goal that this transfer, I would just work hard and do my best and not let anything hold me back, especially my own self. We had a transfer meeting that we got to go to, and it was really good. It was just all about faith. There's a huge push right now in the mission to find more investigators. They see that when we find twice as many investigators in one month, that two months later, the baptisms are doubled. So we're trying to double our baptisms in July. So, the meeting just made me super excited. They talked about how when hardships and disappointments come, that's when we need to DOUBLE our faith, rather than cut it in half. So, these past several days, I have been trying to see how in the world I can put that into practice...because we have been struggling with some serious opposition. Satan is real and he has the key to every one of my investigators' houses!!! Ramiro was good to go, and we had a lesson with him last week, and his parents are visiting from Mexico and sat in on the lesson. Since then, he hasn't returned our calls, dropped an appointment, etc. We're worried that his parents talked him out of it. Rafa was our golden investigator, and we started teaching  his cousin Ivan as well, and they live in a sketchyyy house where there is just all sorts of bad influence. We went there w/ Hno Laguna, and he told us that we shouldn't go back again by ourselves. So, they were all set to come to church, and now it just looks like they're getting hard to reach as well. Anyways...so it is. One thing that's interesting about this transfer is that we're teaching a lot of young women...we have 12 year old Rosalinda, then 15 and 17 year olds Claudia and Nadia, and some other potentials. Which Sister Cottrell and I really enjoy, but understandably, it doesn't thrill the ward leaders too much, I think. Especially because Cesar has recently had some problems (9 year old Cesar that got baptized)...last Sunday he left primary with a couple of the other boys, and they were found walking around outside instead of in class. So that's a big liability because his parents aren't the ones that are responsible for him while at church, etc. etc. Anyways...so, we're trying to have the gift of discernment and to find more families and men to teach.

The ward is awesome, but last night Hno Laguna told us that the first counselor in the bishopric complained to him about how we acted at dinner at his house. The last time we had dinner there, it was one of the Elder's birthdays, and I guess he was less than impressed. I felt SO bad, and Sister Cottrell and I have both wanted to bring up to the elders that we all need to be better behaved when we're at dinner. But we tried to just lead by example, and now the counselor brought it up before we did. We feel so bad, because gaining the trust of the members is everything, and we just expected more of ourselves! So, that was kind of a downer last night...and we're trying to figure out how to make amends.

Anyways, I feel like I just started off this email with way too many downers. Let me assure you, folks, that there are miracles each and every day. The Lord gives u smiracles just to remind us that he is still the one that is in control of all of this. Last night we had a really cool one. So, if you'll remember when Sister Cottrell was sick last week, I went thru all the formers and marked the ones I wanted to visit. I felt really strongly about this girl named Addy and her mom Andrea. We visited their house a few days later, and they weren't there. Then, we got some referrals from Easter Pageant, where we were going to deliever people's pictures with the cast. We made an appt to deliver one to a guy, Isaias. We pull up to the house, and we're like "We recognize this house..." and there's a girl outside and we ask her name and she goes "My name's addy". It was the former I had been wanting to see so badly!!! So, Isaias is her step dad, and he wasn't even there, but we talked with her and had a really good conversation. That was way cool. The Spirit is real, and if you listen to it, the Lord will lead you. The most effective moments of our days are the ones when we're following the Spirit.

K, this is short, but I love you all. Thanks so much for your support!!!! Love, Sister Fors
